Terms & Conditions

By downloading, building, or using Veneer, you agree to the terms of the MIT License and acknowledge the cryptographic responsibilities and threat model boundaries described below.

SECTION 01

MIT Open-Source License

Veneer is free, open-source software licensed under the MIT License. Copyright (c) 2026 Fariz Anjum (farizanjum@veener.fariz.tech). You are free to inspect, modify, build, and distribute the source code subject to the conditions of the MIT License in the root LICENSE file of the repository.

SECTION 02

No Warranty & Cryptographic Responsibility

Passwords and Destruction PINs (;;!) are never stored or recoverable. Keys are derived on the fly in volatile RAM using Argon2id and wrap random 256-bit AES-256-GCM Data Encryption Keys.

If you forget your note password or trigger your Destruction PIN (;;!), your encrypted payload cannot be recovered by anyone, including the author. The software is provided "AS IS", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, and you assume full responsibility for maintaining backups of critical information.

SECTION 03

Threat Model & Intended Use

Veneer provides screen-level and opportunistic plausible deniability against casual inspection, shoulder-surfing, and cloud sync snooping. It is not a substitute for full-disk or hidden-volume OS encryption (such as VeraCrypt) against forensic disk-image analysis.

Users are responsible for disabling Obsidian's Core File Recovery plugin as prompted by Veneer and for complying with all applicable laws and regulations in their jurisdiction.
